Work and clients

Simon’s focus is on hand-holding, nurturing individuals and their businesses, guiding them through red tape and managing expansion. His accounting expertise, married to a wealth of tax experience, enables him to advise on a range of issues from the structure of a new business to the tax implications of proposed transactions. His clients include those in sectors such as entertainment & media, professional practices, property & construction, owner-managed business, information technology, retailers, charities and private clients. He also holds a diploma in Charity Accounting.

The route to Shipleys

Simon qualified whilst working with HW Fisher and Co. and worked with KPMG. He joined Shipleys in 1989, becoming a principal in 1995 and Managing Principal in 2015 . In 2021, after a successful 6-year tenure where the business grew both organically and by acquisition, he returned full-time to client work. Simon became a Consultant at Shipleys in May 2023.

"To help clients with the real 'nitty-gritty' without losing the overview."

Most entertaining deal or case

"Being told I could not possibly be an accountant. People have an expectation of what an accountant will be and do. The biggest buzz I get out of my job is understanding my clients and their needs and helping them achieve their goals, invariably the advice won't just cover the accounts!"

Proudest professional moments

"There are a number but the best are always where I've helped my client save money or achieve something they've wanted to achieve."

What I like about my job

"Helping clients spot opportunities and contributing to their business success."

Interests outside work

Simon is married with two children and lives in Surbiton. He is keen on sport, although perhaps increasingly more as a spectator than participant! He enjoys watching rugby and cricket. His other joys are travel and a good gig. He drives his family mad by getting excited at the credits for films and television programmes made by his entertainment and media clients.

"We regularly meet with Simon Robinson. He's helped us understand the business side of things at each stage. He's a great sounding board and really helps us feel confident in making the important decisions."

“Simon Robinson and his team do our year-end accounts and provide payroll services. More importantly they also give sensible and intelligent financial and strategic advice and mentor us through with those unusual issues that occasionally arise.”
