Work and clients: Tajinder’s focus is on planning advice for private clients and business owner managers, with particular attention on property taxes including mitigating Capital Gains Tax and Stamp Duty Land Tax. He also advises on HMRC Tax enquiries and appeals to the Tax Tribunal.

The route to Shipleys: He spent 12 years with GlaxoSmithKline as Tax Director advising on indirect tax and International tax, before being appointed to various senior commercial roles in Primary Care, Global Commercial Strategy and Marketing Development. He then joined Deloitte as a member of the Deal Review Board, where he led the integration of the Tax and Consulting service lines. More recently he was Head of Tax for a London firm of Chartered Accountants specialising in private client work for high net worth individuals and family offices.

Memberships: Chartered Institute of Taxation (ATII both Direct & Indirect Tax), Barrister (Middle Temple).

Aim: To unravel the complexities of tax to give ongoing advice that is relevant and responds to the changing tax rules and needs of clients and their business, which consistently creates greater value for the client than the competition.

Most entertaining deal or case: As a medical representative, I promoted a product very much aimed at men to the highly conservative female GPs in Slough!

Proudest professional moments: Obtaining a significant tax refund after 3 years of protracted discussion with HMRC on a particularly narrow point of law which was subsequently endorsed by the courts.

What I like about my job: Through the complex plethora of statutory reliefs and tax concessions available, finding the one specific optimum solution that best fits our clients’ short and long- term objectives.

Interests outside work: Tajinder is married with 3 children. “Despite my best efforts, our household is dominated by a tiny long-haired dachshund “. Having hung up his squash racket, he is now an avid armchair sports fan, and a voracious reader, who loves theatre, and enjoys trekking and the tranquillity of the occasional PADI dive.
