It wasn’t until after university that I started to consider a career in accounting, having done a maths degree it seemed a good fit. After passing the SWAT assessment day and discussing the firms with them, I decided that Shipleys professional but relaxed approach really appealed to me.
At the Shipleys interview day it was good to be able to talk to other trainees and to get an insight into the work and office culture. I started my training contract in January 2014 and it was a steep learning curve initially, but this was helped by the introductory courses at SWAT and studying at college.
At Shipleys I enjoy the variety of industries and locations of the clients. Each week can be very different; from schools and charities to films or fund managers. It can be difficult at times to move between the different types of jobs, but you receive training through SWAT and support from the managers and other trainees.
It’s nice to now be able to help the new starters who are in the same position I was initially. I also like going to clients that I went to in my first year, now as the senior, and seeing how much I’ve learnt since.
