Work and Clients: Simon’s core experience is in the provision of audit and compliance services to clients ranging from small owner-managed businesses to large complex international groups and listed PLCs. He also has experience in specialist audit areas including pension schemes, charities, property management, film co-production and FSA regulated businesses. Simon enjoys advising clients on a wide range of accounting areas including management accounts, forecasting and systems, acquisitions and disposals. The route to Shipleys: Started out with Larking Gowen in Norwich before joining Rothman Pantall in 1998, with whom he qualified, becoming a Partner in 2006. The London office of Rothman Pantall merged with Shipleys in 2007. Memberships: Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Member of the Audit & Assurance Faculty.

Most entertaining deal or case: “There have been quite a few, but as a football fan probably my most entertaining project was being responsible for preparing a full due diligence report for the prospective purchasers of what is now a Championship club. Although the deal did not go through the club were so impressed with our work they came on board as a client and remain so today.” What I like about my job: “I like working on my higher profile “prestige” clients but I get a great deal of satisfaction out of doing a good job for all my clients irrespective of size or status. I enjoy doing a good audit job, but I also like being involved when things are happening, such as the due diligence project above, rather than only being brought in at the end. helping clients improve and grow their businesses also gives me particular satisfaction.” Proudest professional moments: “It’s always good to win new work and I have been particularly proud on a number of occasions to have achieved this through the quality of our service and word of mouth from existing clients.” Interests outside work: Simon is married and lives in Richmond. Originally from the Wirral, he enjoys music, film, travel and sport. He is a member of both Manchester United Football Club and Surrey County Cricket Club.
