Expertise: Accounting, Audit & Business Compliance, Business Tax Planning
Work and clients: Stewart enjoys looking after a variety of clients, most of which are either in the entertainment and media industry, or closely linked to it in some way. He has a wealth of experience in the sector, ranging from business administration of UK subsidiaries of overseas companies through to auditing the accounts of UK PLCs. Whatever their size, Stewart's clients value his ability to get the right balance between attending to the detail where necessary and identifying opportunities to save time and costs if possible.
Stewart has worked in the film and television industry for many years and acts for some household names with the utmost discretion.
The route to Shipleys: Joined the firm from Birmingham University in 1997 and qualified in 2001. Was appointed a principal in 2008.
Memberships: ICAEW
Aim:
"To provide day-to-day advice and support to meet the financial needs of businesses."
Most entertaining deal or case:
"By coincidence I was working on different projects for the same client when our children were born! Both assignments were completed on time despite the visits to the maternity ward!"
Proudest professional moments:
"As I joined Shipleys straight from university and trained and qualified here, in terms of my career I am proud that my contribution to growing the department has been recognised by my appointment as a Principal. Thinking about work for clients, being asked to provide input to a policy paper and having the draft document I put together for discussion adopted by the board as the actual policy was very satisfying".
What I like about my job:
"I look after a wide range of clients and no two days are ever the same."
Interests outside work:
Stewart is an ardent cricket fan and an Associate Member of the MCC - as new members are only admitted on a one-out, one-in basis, he expects the total wait to be about 14 years! Stewart is married with two young daughters.
